Here’s why fans think Colin Jost and Michael Che are leaving ‘SNL’ after Season 50

Goodbye from New York…

Some “Saturday Night Live” fans believe that current “Weekend Update” hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che are planning to depart after the current landmark Season 50.

Neither Jost, 42, nor Che, 41, has officially spoken out or confirmed the rumors.

In February, Che said, “I’m not coming back, don’t worry,” during a standup show at the University of Rochester.

He added, “I’m done, it’s over for me. It’s been so much fun. It’s a little emotional, it’s bittersweet.”

Since it was a standup act, it wasn’t clear if it was a real announcement or a joke, and Che hasn’t clarified or confirmed.

Che and Jost have been the “Weekend Update” anchors for over a decade since 2014.

That’s longer than the iconic team of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, who only hosted “Weekend Update” together for two years (from 2004 to 2006) despite leaving a strong impression.

“They’ve been the longest-running update anchors for a while,” one fan pointed out on Reddit, adding, “There’s expected to be a decent turnover after the 50th season of people who stayed to be a part of it. Add in his wife hosting the season finale and I wouldn’t be surprised if it is his last episode.”

Scarlett Johansson, 40, who has been married to Jost since 2020, will lead the episode with musical guest Bad Bunny.

Many fans believe that since the actress is hosting the Season 50 finale, that’s a set up for Jost’s swan song.

During a 2024 interview on “The Howard Stern Show,” Jost and Che were asked about leaving “SNL.”

“I wanna leave because I just feel like I miss stand up,” Che admitted at the time.

Jost chimed in: “I feel like, first of all, you’re very good at it and it is rewarding for you, even though you’re often like ‘I want to do other stuff.”

Che confessed, “It’s hard to imagine being gone. My brain is on the clock of ‘Saturday Night Live.’”

“People get burnt out in ways you don’t see,” Jost went on. “People get burned out in a different way, when you have that level of heat for a while. It’s hard to keep doing it.”

When Stern asked if they would do “Weekend Update” without each other if the other person left, both said “no.”

“Saturday Night Live” Season 50 ends on May 17.
