Jacob Elordi planned to ‘take a break’ from acting — why he changed his mind

Shoutout to Emerald Fennell.

Jacob Elordi revealed that he was going to briefly step away from acting until he was offered a role in the Oscar-winning director’s upcoming film “Wuthering Heights.”

“I was really lucky. I was going to take a break for a while, and then Emerald just very simply texted me, and you can’t run from that text,” he told IndieWire in an interview published Thursday.

Elordi also praised his “Wuthering Heights” co-star Margot Robbie for her “incredible” performance in the film.

“She’s a livewire. I’m so, so excited for people to see it,” he said. “She’s a beautiful actor and she gave so, so much.”

Fennell, 39, is directing, writing and producing the adaptation of Emily Brontë’s 1847 romance novel. The film comes out in Feb. 2026. Fennell, Robbie and Elordi previously worked together on “Saltburn.”

Robbie, who is playing Catherine Earnshaw opposite Elordi’s Heathcliff, previously praised Fennell’s filmmaking in a January 2024 interview with Variety.

“Emerald immerses you into a world so quickly,” said the “Barbie” star, 34. “She’s so masterful at tone and plot; she gets you into it so quickly — you’re just immediately like, ‘I’m in this world.’”

Elordi has other acting projects that will come out before “Wuthering Heights.”

His next film is Daniel Minahan’s romantic drama “On Swift Horses” which premiered at the 2024 Toronto Film Festival and releases in theaters on April 25. Elordi produced the film and stars alongside Daisy Edgar-Jones, Will Poulter and Diego Calva.

Then, Elordi will star in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein movie later this year. He’s playing Frankenstein’s monster while Oscar Isaac is playing Frankenstein.

Elordi told IndieWire he and del Toro, 60, watched the Frankenstein films from the 1930s together to prepare for shooting.

“I think I’ve seen every creature film ever made. Strangely enough, Guillermo gave me a baby book — a baby development book — at the start of filming. [Those] two references I remember greatly,” he said.

As for television, Elordi has a main role in the new 5-part Australian miniseries “The Narrow Road to the Deep North,” based on Richard Flanagan’s 2013 novel. He plays a war doctor in the 1940s who is drafted to the Philippines to aid in the construction of the Burma Railway.

Elordi also recently confirmed he started filming Season 3 of “Euphoria,” in which he plays Nate Jacobs.

“I just shot my first days of that this week,” he told Entertainment Tonight last week. “It was incredible. You also have to understand we’ve grown up on that. We grew up from late teens into adults on that show.”

“It was beautiful. It was really touching to go back and step into that environment, it was like stepping into a time capsule,” Elordi added. “Nothing had changed.”
