White House cancels planned Trump-Netanyahu press conference as tariffs, Gaza loom over Oval Office talks

WASHINGTON — President Trump has canceled a White House press conference with visiting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu — amid a third day of stock-market panic over his sweeping “Liberation Day” reciprocal tariffs.

There was no explanation for the surprise decision to ax the East Room forum moments before Netanyahu’s arrival. A smaller Oval Office pool spray with the leaders is still scheduled to take place.

Stocks ping-ponged Monday amid disputed conjecture that Trump may delay the new tariffs for 90 days — as UK, Taiwanese, Japanese and South Korean leaders expressed interest in averting the steep new levies through negotiations, with the White House saying about 50 countries have reached out for talks, while China takes the opposite approach with retaliatory tariffs.
