Islanders trying to extend Kyle Palmieri in stunning trade deadline reversal

SAN JOSE, Calif. — Kyle Palmieri will remain on Long Island.

While the Islanders gave up on signing Brock Nelson to an extension and dealt him to Colorado late Thursday night, the club will keep Palmieri and attempt to extend him, per a league source.

While no extension has been agreed to as yet, the two sides are close enough that it’s believed they can work something out in the coming days.

Palmieri is said to want to stay on Long Island.

Keeping Palmieri also means that the Islanders can try to keep pushing for a playoff spot, as moving both him and Nelson would have put a major hole in the team’s forward group.
