The solution to the Yankees’ growing lineup issues is as clear as it may be painful to Hal Steinbrenner

Recently, Hal Steinbrenner asked these questions:

“Should I really need a $300-plus million payroll to win a championship? Does having a huge payroll really increase my chances that much of winning a championship?”

The answers are yes and yes.

And I think he has to raise that number even more — now. Even though the Yankees already project to a luxury tax payroll of roughly $305 million, and every dollar they spend moving forward is taxed at $1.10, I think they should count themselves fortunate that Jose Iglesias is still available in free agency and go ahead and sign him and perhaps also find a righty hitting outfielder.
