Multiple Long Island colleges’ online programs have jumped in the latest highly respected national rankings issued by US News & World Report — with one school soaring nearly 200 spots.
Getting the highest marks among the local schools’ programs was Stony Brook University’s online master’s nursing curriculum, which again cracked the publication’s top 10 list.
The program leaped a spot since last year, tying with Vanderbilt University for eighth out of more than 200.
The North Shore SUNY school’s non-MBA business graduate program for online also ranked high at 74 while its MBA alternative was 147.
Hofstra University on Hempstead Turnpike in Nassau County saw improvements for its online MBA program as well. It went up 15 places, from 29th to 14th, tying with the University of Maryland.
Hofstra’s online education master’s program tied with Stony Brook among three other schools at 104, according to Newsday.
Molloy University, further west in Rockville Center, soared 189 spots for its online bachelor’s degrees.
This year, the school was ranked 57th as opposed to 246 in 2024.
Elsewhere in Nassau, the New York Institute of Technology’s online engineering master’s program moved up to 66 — eight ranks above its number last year.
“The methodologies are different for each discipline, but all incorporate metrics assessing how well these programs are designed for distance learners and their effectiveness at awarding affordable degrees in a reasonable timeframe,” the publication said in a press release.
