An Indiana husband allegedly killed his wife on Valentine’s Day when he stabbed her 40 times with a “big a–” knife after she “just didn’t give a sh–” about the Paris-themed evening he arranged, according to new court docs.
Taylor Meyer, 34, is accused of beating his wife, Deborah, with a wine bottle and stabbing her repeatedly while the couple’s three young children slept upstairs in their Jeffersonville home on Feb. 14 before boasting about the murder to the victim’s possible lover.
Meyer’s grand plans for the perfect Valentine’s Day stemmed from growing suspicion in January that his 36-year-old wife was having an affair with a coworker, according to a probable cause affidavit obtained by outlets this week.
In an attempt to turn the tide, he bought her a dress, ordered dinner and had their kids draw pictures of the Eiffel Tower decorations as part of a “Bringing Paris to you” evening, WAVE reported, citing the documents.
Meyer gave his wife a card with a handwritten message inside and the two even danced to their wedding song, he reportedly told police.
But Deborah did not appear impressed or appreciative in her husband’s eyes.
“It was the hardest I’ve ever tried,” he allegedly bemoaned during an interview with investigators, Law and Crime reported. “She just didn’t give a s–t.”
His wife left the home for 20 minutes, which Meyer said he believes was to meet up with her “boyfriend.”
When she got back, the night turned violent when Meyer allegedly attempted to pry the victim’s phone out of her hands which led to a fight, according to the affidavit.
“What are you going to do, kill me? You’re going to hurt me and leave our kids with no parents?” his wife said, according to Meyer’s interview with police, Law and Crime reported.
He eventually wrestled control of the phone and sat on her back as he went through it before calling the alleged “boyfriend” to tell him the commotion was his fault, according to the legal paperwork reported on by WAVE.
The two continued to struggle before Meyer allegedly told police he hit her over the head with a wine bottle multiple times, leading her to lose consciousness.
He then found a “big a– kitchen knife, a long one” and plunged the knife into her dozens of times, including her chest, the affidavit alleged.
He allegedly took a photo of Deborah’s body and cruelly sent it to the possible boyfriend, texting him “Your Fault,” according to police. He also allegedly told friends and family he killed his wife.
When Meyer was arrested, officers found the couple’s three children all under the age of five inside the home, WAVE reported.
Meyer has pleaded not guilty to a murder charge. He will be held in jail leading up to his July trial date.
