Headstrong Hochul takes on Trump: Letters to the Editor — Feb. 15, 2025

The Issue: New York state and city’s multifront power battles with the Trump administration.

Gov. Hochul tried to stall President Trump and the feds by attempting to delay the election to replace UN Ambassador Elise Stefanik, but she risked positioning Albany as a renegade and New Yorkers as national pariahs (“Kat delays sabotage & plays dumb,” Feb. 12).

Our nation’s sovereignty and laws must be respected, defended and abided by — not dismissed, cherry-picked or exploited.

This will likely be a defining moment for New York state and Kathy Hochul.

I am not fooled by Hochul.

Of course she had a role in the election scheme.

She is just a bad liar, and I do not trust a word she has to say.

Remember when she said that congestion pricing was off the table indefinitely because it would present financial hardship to many New Yorkers?

I knew that was a lie, and sure enough, after the election, congestion pricing came back with a vengeance.

And so I quote, “Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.”

Nothing says it better than Attorney General Pam Bondi announcing that the Justice Department is suing the state of New York for prioritizing illegal immigrants over American citizens.

Yes, the buck stops here.

It’s “America first” for now and hopefully forever.

It’s up to the voters to choose wisely and elect candidates who will best represent the states and guide effective policy.

First Hochul was for congestion pricing.

Then she paused it to improve Democrats’ chances in the 2024 House races.

Now she’s talking to Trump on his threat to scrap congestion pricing.

Hochul claims she had no role in the scheme to delay filling Rep. Elise Stefanik’s seat.

She is in way over her head.

She lacks the fortitude to sway the lefty state politicians on their inane crime policies.

What makes her think she can sway Trump?

She has no chance against the acumen of the president.

Michael Goodwin is pretty much trying to educate Kathy Hochul; if she would only read his column about how to alienate progressive New York Democrats in Congress, she would be able to effectively run a state like New York (“Blunderwoman Kat no match against Trump,” PostOpinion, Michael Goodwin, Feb. 12).

Hochul’s resistance to Trump will not work to her benefit, and if she continues to rebuff the president, her popularity will suffer.

Hochul has absolutely no hope of attaining a second term simply because of her flip-flopping on congestion tolling, along with her incoherent political agenda.

Kathy, start listening to people like Trump.

Border Czar Tom Homan is not happy with Mayor Eric Adams’ foot-dragging (“Homan fed up with Adams foot-drag,” Feb. 13).

He should not be surprised.

Adams is blowing smoke at Homan and the entire Trump administration.

I hope they realize that the mayor is not backing up the deportation operation like he claims to be.

Eric Adams was in full favor of immigration when he was greeting all the illegal immigrants at the bus terminal two years ago.

He did not turn back the $59 million that was used to house illegal immigrants in hotels.

Donald Trump prides himself on making deals, always to his advantage (“Dropping a bomb in drop Eric case,” Feb. 14).

Trump famously published a book about it.

The president’s recent meetings with Mayor Adams, who has maintained his innocence, resulted in a reprieve for the mayor.

Eric Adams is just a pawn in the game.

The big picture here is Donald Trump’s plan to turn New York from a blue state into a red state in 2028.

I may be wrong, but I suspect Trump’s next target will most likely be Gov. Hochul.
