County coaches were in awe of Benson, who can play any position on the field. Marina was expected to suffer after losing eight senior starters from last season. Benson led the Vikings to the verge of playoffs.

Capistrano Valley, Jr.
Scored 10 goals and had 17 assists and was the key figure in the Cougar offense. She led them to a second-place finish in South Coast League and to the semifinals of the Southern Section Division I tournament.
DEVON GRISSOM
Defender
Mission Viejo, Sr.
Led Mission Viejo to the Southern Section Division I final. One of few veterans on the team, she played in front of a freshman goalkeeper and behind seven sophomore midfielders.
ANNIE LUKE
Forward
Santa Margarita, Sr.
A highly skilled forward, Luke is adept at changing pace and direction. Will slip by any defender who gets too close. Scored 10 goals to lead the Eagles to the Southern Section Division I quarterfinals.
JILL NELSEN
Midfielder
Newport Harbor, Sr.
A skilled, versatile player, Nelsen played the first half of the season at midfield before she was moved to sweeper to shore up the defense this season. She finished with 12 goals and six assists.
KATIE RODA

Irvine, Sr.
A tireless worker who had nine goals and 10 assists. A classic two-way player. Led the Vaqueros to the Sea View League co-championship and the first round of the Southern Section Division I playoffs.

Santa Margarita, Jr.
Gave up seven goals and shut out eight teams in 21 games for the Eagles, the county’s top-ranked team throughout the regular season. Determined, tactical and experienced, Serrins has high standards.
ANDREA SIEVERS
Midfielder
Los Alamitos, Sr.
Scored twice in a game for the league championship, scored the winning goal in a Southern Section Division I quarterfinal victory and assisted on the tying goal in the final to give the Griffins a share of the title.
HEATHER SWANSON
Defender
Irvine, Sr.
An intelligent, tenacious defender who is very skilled. Also good at pressing forward and assisted on five goals. Led the Vaqueros to the first round of the Southern Section Division I playoffs.
KATIE TICEHURST
Forward
Mater Dei, Jr.
Ticehurst led Mater Dei in goals as well as yellow cards. Scored 17 goals and had four assists to lead the Monarchs to the South Coast League title and the quarterfinals of the Southern Section Division I tournament.
KAYLEE WHITFIELD

El Modena, Sr.
A two-time all-county first-team selection, Whitfield scored 34 goals, including nine in playoffs, to lead El Modena to its third-consecutive Century League title and to its first Southern Section Division II title.

Mission Viejo
In his second season, Larsen worked wonders with a young team, bringing them to the Southern Section final. When the Diablos last appeared in the final, 1988, Larsen was a freshman at the school.

The backbone of the Cougar defense and midfield. Scored five goals and had nine assists from her center fullback position.
Sharon Gillis Defender
Fountain Valley, Sr.
Confident player who led Fountain Valley to a second-place finish in the Sunset League. Moved to center midfield for final four games.
Sommer Hammoud Midfielder
Los Alamitos, Jr.
Scored nine goals, including two in the Griffins’ 3-2 Southern Section Division I semifinal victory over Torrance.
Karine Inoue Forward
Laguna Hills, Jr.
Scored 27 goals and had seven assists. A natural finisher, Inoue led the Hawks to the Pacific Coast League title.
Meagan Lingo Midfielder
Santa Margarita, Sr.
A defensive midfielder, was Santa Margarita’s leader on the field this season even though she didn’t score any goals.
Jill Pearson Midfielder
El Modena, Jr.
Transferred from Pacifica and helped El Modena to a Southern Section title in her first season of high school soccer.
Stacy Roberts Midfielder
Laguna Hills, Jr.
Scored nine goals and had 12 assists. She is strong, composed and distributes the ball well.
Kristen Rowe Forward
Santa Margarita, Jr.
Led Santa Margarita with 18 goals and eight assists. Has one of the county’s strongest shots and she is not afraid to use it.
Kirsten Roy Goalkeeper
Aliso Niguel, Jr.
Had 13 shutouts in 23 games to lead Aliso Niguel to a second-place finish in the Pacific Coast League.
Catherine Rudat Defender
Canyon, Sr.
Led the Comanches to the Southern Section Division II final. Typically marked the opponent’s best player. Had four goals and five assists.
Nicole Terry Forward
El Modena, Sr.
Scored 32 goals this season to lead El Modena to its third Century League title and its first Southern Section Division II championship.
