Dan Hurley viciously chides ref for turning back on him: ‘I’m the best coach in the f–king sport’

Dan Hurley’s sideline antics have become the stuff of legend — even it they don’t always rub people the right way.

The UConn men’s basketball coach may have taken things to a whole new level against Butler on Tuesday night.

After a Huskies defensive rebound became a turnover with 2:58 left in the first half with UConn up 37-27, Hurley gave referee Nathan Ferrell an earful over call during a TV time out on Monday at XL Center.

The Big East official had other ideas as he turned his back to Hurley and began walking away.

Hurley was having none of it and unleashed an absolutely savage quote that was shown on the FS1 broadcast.

“Don’t turn your back on me,” Hurley yelled. “I’m the best coach in the f–king sport.”

While some may see that as pompous or arrogant, Hurley can make the case as the coach as the two-time defending national champion.

However, St. John’s Rick Pitino, Kansas’ Bill Self and Michigan State’s Tom Izzo can certainly make a case.

Hurley did have a much lighter moment, enjoying a group hug with Butler coach Thad Matta and a different official — and the three appeared to be having a good laugh.

The Huskies, who are currently ranked No. 19 in the AP, have struggled a bit this season.

They rebounded with an 80-78 overtime win over Butler to move to 14-5 after coming off a 68-63 loss to Creighton on Saturday.
