Tina Knowles has an explanation for her social media use.
Beyoncé’s mother recently made headlines when her Instagram account “liked” a post about the rape allegations against her son-in-law, Jay-Z, and Sean “Diddy” Combs. Jay-Z has denied all the allegations made against him.
Knowles, 70, later claimed she was “hacked” as she spoke out in support of her family.
The matriarch appeared on Tuesday’s episode of “The Run-Through With Vogue” podcast and insisted that she’s “always screwing up” on social media.
“It’s so funny because you know how many times I’ve liked something that was negative about my own children?” said Knowles. “Because if I’m busy and I’m going through the thing, I’m like, ‘Oh, there’s Beyoncé with so and so.’ I like that. And then the fans come back and say, ‘Miss Tina, please erase that because you’re liking some negative post.’ ”
“I mean, that’s what happens to 70-year-olds on social media. It’s true. I’m always screwing up,” she added.
Knowles explained that she uses voice-to-text on Instagram, but her Southern accent causes the app to sometimes spell her words wrong.
“I know that it doesn’t understand what I’m saying, and it’s got crazy stuff,” she said.
Knowles did not talk about the situation with Jay-Z, 55, on the podcast — but she did reveal that her famous son-in-law has given her advice about social media.
“Jay will say, ‘Listen, if you’re gonna read somebody, at least spell your words right. Don’t misspell your words, Ma. You can’t do that. Take your time and go over and spellcheck your stuff!’ ” she said.
Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s daughter Blue Ivy, 12, also talks to Knowles about her social media mishaps.
“Every once in a while, I’ll get a call from Blue, and she’ll say, ‘Grandma, that’s really whack what you just did. That’s really whack. You should delete that,’ ” Knowles revealed on the podcast. “I’m like, ‘Girl, I’m on to the next thing.’ And all of the comments are like, ‘There you go again, Miss Tina.’ ”
Knowles also explained that she’s “a protector” of her kids Beyoncé, 43, and Solange Knowles, 38, and that she can’t resist sticking up for them on the internet.
“My kids are always like, ‘Mama, just ignore that.’ But it gets to the point where I’m just like, ‘I’m sorry. This is enough. It’s enough.’ You know?” she said. “Because imagine being a mother and somebody’s lying on your kid. It’s hard to watch.”
Knowles recently spoke out in defense of her oldest daughter after Beyoncé’s NFL halftime performance on Christmas Day was panned by some critics online.
“It is mind-boggling to me that you would take your precious Christmas day and watch a performance of someone you hate and you don’t think has talent so that you can go talk ish about it later,” Knowles wrote on Instagram.
She further slammed the trolls who watched Bey’s performance and called them “a joke.”
