Caitlin Clark wasn’t far from the court on Saturday.
The WNBA star, 22, supported boyfriend and first-year Butler assistant men’s basketball coach Connor McCaffery in Indianapolis as the Bulldogs narrowly fell to UConn at home, 79-74.
Clark, the top pick by the Fever who wrapped her first season in the league with WNBA Rookie of the Year honors, was seen in the stands wearing a light blue Butler cap as the Bulldogs fell to 7-6 on the season and 0-2 in Big East play.
At one point during the broadcast, Clark had her head titled down, which drew speculation from some fans that she was checking the score of the Chiefs-Texans game.
“Probably checking that Chiefs score during the break,” one X user posted.
A longtime Chiefs fan, the Fever standout was likely pleased with Saturday’s outcome as the defending Super Bowl champs topped the Texans, 27-19.
The Chiefs are now 14-1 on the season.
Although McCaffery’s team didn’t get the W on Saturday, Clark has long supported the fellow Iowa basketball alum.
The son of Hawkeyes men’s basketball coach Fran McCaffery, the former guard-forward joined Butler’s staff in September.
“Following a high-level playing career, Connor has had the opportunity to both contribute and learn alongside one of the best staffs in the NBA,” Butler coach Thad Matta said in a statement.
“Those experiences will be very valuable to our staff. He obviously comes from a basketball family that I know very well and I’m excited for the impact he is going to have on our program both quickly and in the long run.”
McCaffery previously worked for the Pacers as a basketball development coordinator.
He’s been dating Clark since 2023, with the couple marking one year together in April.
“One year of the best mems w my fav person,” Clark gushed on Instagram at the time. “you make everyday better and I can’t wait for many more adventures together… love you.”
McCaffery supported Clark this past spring when the Fever selected her No. 1 overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft after a record-shattering career at Iowa.
