Deion Sanders makes plans for his Colorado coaching future abundantly clear

Deion Sanders says he is not seeking greener pastures.

Sanders is wrapping up his second season coaching at Colorado, and given the turnaround he has engineered with the program there has been much speculation that he could jump to the NFL sidelines.

Coach Prime appeared on “The PacMan Jones Show” and disputed the idea that he would leave for the NFL, either in the near term or down the road.

“I love Boulder, Colorado,” Sanders said. “I have every intention, every plan in the world to be coaching for the Colorado Buffs from here on. I want to finish here. I want to put the flag. I want my name on the mountains out there. I want to put my flag down in Colorado.”

Colorado finished 9-3 this season, including a 7-2 record in Big 12 conference play.

In 2022, the year before Sanders arrived, Colorado finished 1-11 and last place in the Big 12.

One reason that people have speculated Sanders could be leaving Boulder soon is that his son, star quarterback Shedeur Sanders, and Travis Hunter, the Heisman Trophy winner who excels at both wide receiver and defensive back, are expected to be top picks in the upcoming NFL draft.

However, Colorado will replenish its quarterback room as five-star prospect Julian Lewis announced last month on “The Pat McAfee Show” that he was headed to Boulder.

Lewis is ranked second overall in the class of 2025 by ESPN.

Sanders has repeatedly denied he is interested in becoming an NFL head coach.

Last month on FS1, Michael Irvin — who played with Sanders on the Cowboys — floated the idea of Sanders replacing Mike McCarthy in Dallas.

“Oh Lord, don’t start that,” Sanders responded repeatedly. “I love it where I am.”
