Firefighters extinguished the blaze, but the vehicle, which was parked on the street, was a total loss.
Arson is suspected in an overnight car fire in Pointe-St-Charles, according to Montreal police spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant.
A 911 call was made shortly after 3 a.m. Sunday about a vehicle in flames on Pacific St., not far from Knox Ave., he said.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze, but the vehicle, which was parked on the street, was a total loss.
Witnesses spotted two people leaving the scene before the fire started, Brabant said.
“We have reason to believe it was arson,” he said. The investigation has been transferred to the police department’s arson squad.
“We will try to get more information by meeting with owner of vehicle,” Brabant said. The vehicle was towed to be examined for information about the cause of the fire, he said. As well, efforts will be made to obtain security footage of the area.
Flames from the burning car caused minor damage to a residence, Brabant said, but no one was injured.
