Taylor Swift’s “Miss Americana” documentary wasn’t a love story.
The 2020 project’s filmmaker, Lana Wilson, explained to the Daily Mail Friday why the singer’s then-boyfriend, Joe Alwyn, was primarily left out of the Netflix release.
Including the actor, 33, “felt disrespectful and weird” to Wilson, who insisted the idea “never occurred to [her] in a strange way.”
She noted that Swift, 34, had been “going through something so profound and powerful” at the time, which “didn’t really have anything to do with her relationships.”
Wilson added, “It was never something I wanted to film actually. … She’s been through so much, this should be private.
“Like, it’s not related to the themes in the film or what I thought she was going through right then,” the director continued.
She clarified that she did not meet Alwyn “until the very end” of the movie before reiterating, “Because her relationships have been through the microscope, I didn’t really have any interest in filming that.”
Swift was, however, willing to speak about Alwyn to viewers — and the couple’s private romance was briefly mentioned in the documentary.
She was also filmed writing multiple songs about her partner.
The duo kept their romance primarily out of the spotlight when they began dating in 2016.
Following their 2023 breakup, Swift moved on with 1975 frontman Matty Healy followed by Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, with whom she is still going strong.
The Grammy winner has rarely issued comments about her current relationship, but the pair’s connection is far from private.
Not only did Kelce, 35, join Swift onstage during one of her London Eras Tour shows in July, but he frequently talks about his significant other on his “New Heights” podcast.
The songwriter, for her part, even changed her “Karma” lyrics from referencing Alwyn as “the guy on the screen coming straight home to [her]” to shouting out “the guy on the Chiefs” instead.
Swift is a regular at Kelce’s NFL games and often sits with his family members — and the athlete’s loved ones joined her family members for Thanksgiving this year.
