James Van Der Beek’s kids will never know and love Dawson Leery.
The actor, 47, appeared on “The View” Wednesday and revealed that he refuses to let his six children — Olivia, 14, Joshua, 12, Annabel, 10, Emilia, 8, Gwen, 6, and Jeremiah, 3 — watch “Dawson’s Creek.”
“I do not,” he said. “It’s a great show, I love the show, I think other kids can watch it. I don’t think my kids need to watch their dad pretend to go through puberty. That’s my stance on it.”
Van Der Beek, who shares his kids with wife Kimberly, 42, was also asked why he thinks the teen drama series is still popular today.
“It was a very well-intentioned show, people really trying to do the right thing and speaking incredibly eloquently about how they were trying to do the right thing,” he said. “I think that seed of good intentions comes through.”
“Dawson’s Creek” aired from 1998 to 2003 on The WB.
The series launched the careers of Van Der Beek and his co-stars Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson and Michelle Williams.
Busy Phillips, Mary-Margaret Humes, John Wesley Shipp, Mary Beth Peil, Nina Repeta, Kerr Smith and Meredith Monroe also starred in the show.
In 2018, the “Dawson’s Creek” cast reunited to appear on the cover of Entertainment Weekly.
“I think we’ve all sort of seen each other over the years, but not everybody all together,” Holmes, 45, said in the interview with the outlet, adding, “And never for long enough.”
On “The View,” Van Der Beek also opened up about his recent colorectal cancer diagnosis.
“It was a shock,” Van Der Beek told the hosts of the ABC daytime show. “I was in really great cardiovascular shape. I was eating what I thought was healthy, thought I was taking really good care of myself and then, yeah, I got the colonoscopy.”
“He [the doctor] said it is cancer and I think I went into shock,” Van Der Beek added.
The “Varsity Blues” star announced that he’s battling stage 3 colorectal cancer at the beginning of November.
The father of six said he got his diagnosis after noticing a change in bowel habits and then getting a colonoscopy.
While appearing on “Good Morning America” on Wednesday, Van Der Beek spoke about how his wife of 14 years has supported him during his health battle.
“She’s been amazing,” he shared about Kimberly. “She’s really taught me what unconditional love is.”
Van Der Beek also said “the beautiful blessing” of his cancer battle “has been seeing how many people in my life have shown up.”
