The Eagles are having an inverse of their 2023 season.
Last year, they finished 11-6 but went 1-6 after a 10-1 start and subsequently flamed out of the playoffs, falling 32-9 in Tampa.
This season, the Eagles came out of the gate 2-2, with a blowout loss to the Buccaneers — again — and barely beating the Packers and Saints.
But since then, Philadelphia is undefeated.
The seven-game winning streak came after an early Week 5 bye week, in which starting quarterback Jalen Hurts and head coach Nick Sirianni did not simply take off, according to NFL.com.
The two remained connected in person, on Zoom and over the phone.
NFL.com cited an anonymous source that described the week as “a galvanizing moment” for the head coach-quarterback duo, who have led the Eagles to a 9-2 record with a two-and-a-half game lead in the NFC East — and they’re only behind the 11-1 Lions in the conference.
“According to a source, Hurts and Sirianni spent roughly two hours on phones, FaceTime, Zoom and in person,” NFL.com reported. “Then, randomly, they’d talk for 30 minutes a day if something came up. They reviewed call sheets, talked about the team’s identity and Hurts asked pointed questions about what he can improve upon.”
Additionally, it went beyond the two of them.
The entire staff reportedly joined in, including offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, passing game coordinator and associate head coach Kevin Patullo, along with starting running back Saquon Barkley and the offensive line group.
The Eagles have won four of their seven games during this stretch while away from Philadelphia, highlighted by road wins in Cincinnati and last week’s 37-20 rout over the Rams in which Barkley erupted for 302 all-purpose yards — including 255 rushing yards, the ninth most in NFL history and a franchise record.
The Eagles have another road test this week against the Ravens, who, at 8-4, are arguably the best team on their schedule to this point.
