The driver of the other vehicle, a 30-year-old man, was suspected of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
A 55-year-old man died in a collision Friday evening in the Verdun borough of Montreal.
“According to initial information obtained from witnesses, the victim was driving his car on Richard St., heading north. He was apparently hit by a pickup truck that was driving on Bannantyne Ave., heading east,” said Constable Véronique Dubuc, spokesperson for the Montreal Police Department (SPVM).
The death of the 55-year-old was confirmed at the scene by SPVM officers.
The other driver, a 30-year-old man, was taken to a hospital to be treated for injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
He could, however, face justice, since he is suspected of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
“The driver of the truck was arrested for driving while impaired by alcohol and drugs, causing death, as well as driving causing death,” Dubuc said.
He was due to appear in court soon.
A parked vehicle was also hit in the incident.
Police officers trained in collision investigation from the SPVM were dispatched to the scene to determine the causes and circumstances of the collision. A large perimeter was set up and several witnesses were interviewed.
