Heroes, zeros from Giants’ loss to Buccaneers: Bucky Irving couldn’t be stopped

Heroes, zeros and the full blitz from the Giants’ 30-7 loss to the Buccaneers at MetLife Stadium on Sunday:

Hero

Baker Mayfield completed 24 of 30 passes for 294 yards.

He was one of four different players to rush for a touchdown, after which he did Tommy DeVito’s trademark pinched-fingers celebration.

Zero

Head coach Brian Daboll’s team looked lifeless and unprepared in all facets of the game.

The spark-seeking quarterback switch from Daniel Jones to DeVito did nothing and Daboll’s risky decision to go for a fourth-and-1 at the Giants 37-yard line in the first quarter backfired and set the tone for disaster.

Unsung hero

Bucky Irving ripped off 151 yards from scrimmage (87 rushing and 64 receiving) and scored a rushing touchdown.

He had a team-high six catches and a 56-yard run to get the Buccaneers out of trouble once when they were backed up deep in their own territory.

Key stat

205 More offensive yards gained by the Buccaneers (450) than the Giants (245).
