Marshall football player gets physical with ballboy in intense scene after big win

Marshall defensive back Josh Moten and a ballboy got into it at the end of the Thundering Herd’s 42-35 win over Old Dominion on Saturday night before uniformed police officers intervened.

The brouhaha began when the unidentified staffer attempted to swat the ball out of Moten’s hand as the game came to a close.

The person missed the ball as Moten shielded it from them and he then appeared to shove the person, according to a clip shared by X user The Herd’s Headset

Another clip then showed the ballboy appearing to wrestle over the ball with a second Marshall player before Moten could be seen throwing the ballboy onto the ground before he’s grabbed by a third Marshall football player.

Several uniformed police officers could then be seen coming into the frame getting between the ballboy and trying to calm the situation down.

Moten apologized for his actions in a post on X early Sunday morning

“I’m sorry for the incident after the game yesterday,” he wrote. “That’s not what I’m about. Intense game and, in that moment, emotions got the best of me. To ODU and to my team, I’m sorry it took attention away from a great game.”

It was the second time in as many weeks that a ballboy’s interactions with a player made headlines.

During Colorado’s game against Texas Tech, three of Deion Sanders’ sons got into it with a ballboy for Texas Tech as he attempted to snatch the ball from a Colorado player.

Marshall’s win on Saturday came off a game-winning touchdown that was scored with a little more than four minutes left in the game and was a crucial one that keeps them atop the Sun Belt’s East division standings.

The Thundering Herd will face James Madison in another important game on Saturday in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
