Éric Duhaime says he will discuss his options with party members during a convention this weekend in Victoriaville.
Quebec Conservative Party leader Éric Duhaime was not tipping his hand on Friday about whether he would run for a National Assembly seat in a byelection expected to be called next year in the riding of Arthabaska.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Duhaime, whose party, while garnering nearly 13 per cent of the vote in the 2022 provincial election did not win a single seat, said he would discuss his options with party members during a convention this weekend in Victoriaville, which is located in the riding of Arthabaska.
The seat is held currently by independent MNA Éric Lefebvre, who is expected to run in the general federal election scheduled for the autumn of 2025, and his departure would trigger a byelection.
A recent survey by Segma and commissioned by the Parti Québécois found the PQ leading in voter intention in the riding with 30 per cent. However, Duhaime’s provincial Conservatives were close behind with 26 per cent.
