American quarterback Michael Hiers and global punter Joe Couch are among the players the Roughriders are bringing back next season
After ending the season on the practice roster, which meant they became free agents, the Green and White agreed to terms with American defensive lineman Eric Black, American defensive back Antoine Brooks Jr., Global punter Joe Couch, Canadian offensive lineman Daniel Johnson, Canadian linebacker Zach Philion and Canadian offensive lineman Braydon Noll.
The Roughriders also re-signed three Americans who spent time on the practice roster last season before being released on Oct. 13 including quarterback Michael Hiers, linebacker Braxton Hill and defensive back Robert Javier.
The lone new name is American defensive back Alfahiym Walcott, who played collegiately for the Arkansas Razorbacks and Baylor Bears.
Black, 25, is among the returning players who suited up for the Green and White last season. After signing with the team in August, the 6-foot-4, 247-pounder played two games for the Roughriders after starting the season with the Edmonton Elks.
The 6-foot-5, 297-pound Noll, 27, also suited up for the Roughriders last year as he played in four games as the backup offensive lineman while Philion, 25, played in three games, picking up one special teams tackle after signing with Saskatchewan on two separate occasions last season.
Hiers, Javier and Hill spent four weeks with the Riders this fall on the expanded practice roster before being released.
