New and familiar faces will take their seats in city council chambers. The first regular council meeting is next week.
New and familiar faces will take their seats in city council chambers on Wednesday.
Two items are on the 6 p.m. agenda: the returning officer’s declaration of the official election results, as well as the appointments for deputy mayor and council’s standing policy committees.
The declaration verifies the results from election night: the new mayor is Cynthia Block; Kathryn MacDonald represents Ward 1; Senos Timon represents Ward 2; Robert Pearce represents Ward 3; Troy Davies represents Ward 4; Randy Donauer represents Ward 5; Jasmin Parker represents Ward 6; Holly Kelleher represents Ward 7; Scott Ford represents Ward 8; Bev Dubois represents Ward 9 and Zach Jeffries represents Ward 10.
The deputy mayor will be appointed on a monthly rotation, with Dubois appointed for the rest of November, followed by Donauer for the month of December.
Suggested appointments to the four committees have new councillors filling the roles held by the previous councillor in their wards.
MacDonald, Timon, Pearce, Parker, Kelleher and Ford are the new faces. MacDonald takes over from Darren Hill after defeating him in the civic election, while the others are filling roles left open when previous councillors did not seek re-election.
Davies and Donauer won back their wards, and Jeffries and Dubois were acclaimed.
Cynthia Block served two terms as a city councillor in Ward 6 before jumping into the mayoral race, replacing Charlie Clark.
Saskatoon last held an election without an incumbent mayor running in 1988, when Cliff Wright decided not to seek a fifth straight term. Henry Dayday won his first mayoral term that year, finishing atop a four-candidate field.
Block has said voters “want a modern, 21st century city that’s moving forward, not backward.”
