Cyclist, 76, dies after collision with SUV on Gouin Blvd.

Montreal police believe the SUV was turning left onto the Highway 40 on-ramp when it struck the cyclist.

A 76-year-old cyclist died Friday evening after being struck by an SUV on Gouin Blvd. near the ramp for Highway 40 West on the eastern tip of Montreal Island, Montreal police said.

A police spokesperson said 911 calls reporting the collision came in around 3:30 p.m. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the cyclist unconscious on the ground.

Paramedics performed resuscitation efforts before transporting the man to a hospital, the police spokesperson said. He died later in the evening.

The driver of the SUV, a 33-year-old man, was uninjured, police said.

Preliminary findings suggest the SUV was heading west and struck the cyclist, who was travelling east, as the vehicle made a left turn onto the highway ramp, police added.

The investigation is ongoing.
