Montreal police ask for public’s help in search for assault suspect

Incident took place in July in the neighbourhood of Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve.

Montreal police are seeking the public’s help in their search for a suspect linked to an assault that took place in July in the neighbourhood of Mercier—Hochelaga—Maisonneuve.

On July 4 around 7:55 p.m., a woman was speaking on the phone while walking on the sidewalk north of Sherbrooke St. E near Lyall St., police say. The suspect then allegedly called out to the victim and asked her if she was speaking to him. She replied that she wasn’t. The suspect insulted the victim in English, who replied and continued on her way. He then punched her in the back of the head, causing her to fall to the ground unconscious, and he fled southbound on Arcand St. The woman was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

Police describe the suspect as a dark-skinned man between the ages of 25 and 30, approximately 165 cm tall. At the time of the incident, he had short black hair and was wearing glasses, a black shirt with a blue logo on the front, black shorts with a white logo on the left leg, black sandals with white on top and black socks. Police but did not specify the age of the victim.
