CAQ MNA closes Mirabel riding office after window shot out

Shooting incident believed to be related to protest against CAQ government’s revised flood zone map.

“You will understand that we cannot accept this situation. The doors of my office were always open for everyone. However, I need to protect (my team). We have the right to work in a safe and secure environment. That is why I am giving my team, who are obviously shaken by the event, a break.”

D’Amours’s announcement came at the end of a message defending a revised flood zone map and urging constituents and other area residents to understand that the purpose of the new map was to better protect the population.

“The Quebec government finds itself obliged to act to promote adaptation to climate change,” she said. “The goal is not to relocate residents from flood zones but to increase their security while protecting their property and the environment.

“To ensure the safety and resilience of communities, we must adopt a modernized regulatory framework based on science and accompanied by mapping that shows the real risks of flooding and allows citizens to know that risk.”
