Put your hand up if you’ve ever used a work from home day to slip in a secret self-love session. Now put your other hand up if you’d like to be paid for it in a super non-creepy, completely innocent way.
It’s a wish list that seems impossible to achieve unless you go down the route of sex work, but one company may just be the catalyst to change it all.
Girls Get Off, an Australasian sex toy brand and wellness company, is looking for a new customer service representative — and is offering a very spicy perk to the successful candidate.
The job advertisement, posted today, states that as well as a competitive salary and generous holidays, the company also gives staff a paid one-hour ‘O Break’.
According to the listing, this is ‘a paid hour to pamper yourself’, which could include everything from ‘a cup of tea,’ to ‘a moment of private pleasure (sex toys encouraged!), or to book in that much needed D (or V!) appointment.’
Clearly, nothing is off-limits at this unconventional workplace.
Established in 2020, Girls Get Off is run by Viv Conway and Jo Cummins, and is one of the few companies in the world to offer such a perk. But it’s likely no surprise to customers, who refer to its owners as ‘pleasure godmothers’.
‘Practising what we preach is super important to us, and that means normalising pleasure and incorporating it into our everyday lives as much as we can,’ Viv tells .
But the O Break isn’t just a way to adhere to their brand values; it’s also to help create a good environment for the team as ‘self-care, including self-pleasure, can increase relaxation and mental clarity’, making everyone happier and more productive.
The inspiration for the O Break came from the brand’s community, after a weekly Instagram confessions segment saw numerous women claim they were using their WFH lunch breaks to let off some steam in the bedroom (and feeling all the better for it).
‘Life is busy,’ says Viv. ‘Sometimes pleasure comes second to everything else, which is not on. The O Break is a way to help our team prioritise their self care amid the hustle and bustle of their everyday lives.’
As for how the Girls Get Off team feels about this, one employee told it’s the ‘ideal’ reset and helps boost her productivity, while another said it shows the brand are ‘serious’ about challenging the stigma that comes with female pleasure.
If you’re considering applying, the advertisement states you’ll need to be ‘passionate about helping women feel empowered and confident in their pleasure’, the go-to problem-solving friend, and good at answering customer queries ‘with warmth, empathy, and certainly no shaming’.
The role also requires someone who has experience managing wholesale accounts, answering live chat enquiries, being computer literate, and having excellent organisational skills.
As a fully remote job, there seem to be no location restrictions for applicants, but it is worth noting that the $60,000 – $65,000 salary appears to be either AUD or NZD as the company is Australasian-based. Either way, it works out at roughly £30,000 depending on experience.
Applications are only open for a limited time, so if the O Break sounds like a bit of you, get in quick.
