Seven people struck by vehicle during brawl in Rosemont

According to information obtained by police at the scene, there was a conflict that degenerated during a gathering in a reception hall.

Seven people were struck by a vehicle in a brawl that degenerated in the early hours of Sunday in the borough of Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie.

A party was taking place in a reception hall on Belanger St. near 6th Ave. when a conflict apprantly began inside, at about 3:25 a.m., police said. The conflict continued outside.

“Police located two injured people on the sidewalk,” said Montreal police spokesperson Véroninque Dubuc. “They were transported to hospital, but we do not fear for their lives.”

Thirty minutes later, a further five injured people were reported.

“Another 911 call was made to inform police five more people connected to the same event had gone on their own to hospital for injuries that did not put their lives in danger,” said another police spokesperson, Caroline Chèvrefils.

The victims were men and women age 29 to 47. The motive for the attack remains unknown, but is part of an investigation being conducted by Montreal police.

“According to preliminary information obtained by police at the scene, there was a conflict that degenerated during a gathering in a reception hall,” said police spokesperson Dubuc.

“People left the hall and a vehicle struck seven people before fleeing the scene.”

A security perimeter was erected to protect the scene and forensic identification technicians were called to the site. The area was reopened to traffic at about 6:30 a.m.

It is not known what, if any, connection exists between the victims and their alleged attacker.

The driver of the vehicle is still being sought.
