Anthony Gordon has missed Newcastle United’s Premier League clash against Chelsea due to a groin injury.
The winger suffered the setback during a training session on Saturday and although he travelled to London with the squad, he was not named in Eddie Howe’s matchday squad for the game at Stamford Bridge.
‘He just felt his groin yesterday in training so he travelled with us with the hope that he’d make the game but he hasn’t and Harvey comes in,’ Howe said before kick off.
‘An undoubted blow for us because he’s got pace and he’s an outstanding player.
‘But Harvey comes in and Harvey’s been excellent for us this season. Harvey brings his own qualities, and I still like the team we have.’
Howe has made two changes from Newcastle’s 1-0 defeat to Brighton last weekend with Miguel Almiron and Harvey Barnes starting ahead of Gordon and Jacob Murphy, who drops to the bench.
