A “frustrated” Michelle Obama attacked Donald Trump during her first campaign trail appearance for Kamala Harris, worrying that the US “will blow this opportunity to finally turn the page on the ugliness” by re-electing the former president.
The former first lady did not shy away from slamming the 45th president and his supporters alike during an impassioned speech at Harris’ rally in Kalamazoo, Mich. — her first time stumping for the vice president since the Democratic National Convention in August.
Trump supporters and undecided voters hold Harris to a high and unfair double standard while letting the ex-commander in chief coast with little criticism, Obama claimed.
“I hope you’ll forgive me if I’m a little frustrated that some of us are choosing to ignore Donald Trump’s gross incompetence while asking Kamala to dazzle us at every turn,” Obama, 60, told the crowd.
“I hope that you will forgive me if I’m a little angry that we are indifferent to his erratic behavior, his obvious mental decline, his history as a convicted felon, a known slum lord, a predator found liable for sexual abuse — all of this while we pick apart countless answers from interviews that he doesn’t even have the courage to do.”
Obama pointed to the growing list of former Trump allies who have jumped from the MAGA ship in recent years as proof of the ex-president’s incompetence — including his former chairman of the joint chiefs of staff who labeled the politician as a “fascist.”
The former first lady also went after those choosing to abstain from the 2024 presidential election, claiming that their disregard equates to casting a vote for Trump.
“I hope that you will forgive me if I am worried that we will blow this opportunity to finally turn the page on the ugliness once and for all. Because believe me, if Donald Trump is president again at some point or another, that ugliness will touch all of our lives,” Obama said.
“It will not matter what you look like, how you worship, who you love, or how you vote — if you don’t make six or eight or 12 figures, if you’re not famous, if you criticize or disagree with him in any way, If he doesn’t view you as his equal or relevant to his ambitions. I promise you, He will not think about you when he gets into the Oval Office, and that will have real consequences for all of us.”
Harris continued the Trump flaying when Obama welcomed her onto the rally stage.
The veep snuck in several digs while touting her resume as a courtroom prosecutor, district attorney and California’s attorney general.
“In those roles, I took on perpetrators of all kinds: creditors, fraudsters and repeat offenders. I took them on and I won,” the Democratic presidential nominee said.
“Well, Michigan. In 10 days, it’s Donald Trump’s turn.”
Although familiar, the dig resulted in an eruption of cheers throughout the Wings Event Center.
