Located in New Windsor, NY, an hour’s drive from the George Washington Bridge, Storm King Art Center is one of the country’s largest and most renowned outdoor sculpture parks. It showcases over 150 artists’ works spread over 500 lush fields and forests in the Hudson Valley, and this season’s fall foliage is peaking this weekend, making it a great time to visit. Artists like Alexander Calder and Maya Lin have brought it international recognition. Founded in 1960 by Ralph E. Ogden and H. Peter Stern, co-owners of the Star Expansion Company, it was initially a Hudson River School paintings museum before widening the scope to include outdoor sculpture. It has successfully combined art and its natural surroundings to show the beauty of Orange County. Parts of the land was originally a gravel quarry that supported the construction of the New York Thruway.
