Calgary Flames assign Matt Coronato to AHL’s Wranglers

Matt Coronato is going to be playing for the Calgary Wranglers for the time-being.

Coronato was the Flames’ 13th pick in the first round of the 2021 NHL Draft and has scored two goals in five games this season. Last year, he bounced between the Flames and Wranglers, recording three goals and adding six assists in 34 NHL games, as well as 15 goals and 42 points in 45 games of AHL action.

The winger is likely to be near the top of the list of guys who could be recalled if there are any further injuries to the Flames forwards.

Sharangovich led the Flames in goals last year, with 31, but was hurt in their final pre-season game and has been out with a lower-body injury ever since. Honzek, meanwhile, suffered an upper-body injury against the Chicago Blackhawks on October 15.

Both guys were initially labelled as being week-to-week, but have returned to practice this week and it appears that they could both return to the lineup as soon as Monday’s game in Las Vegas against the Golden Knights.

Should they both return and go right back into the lineup it will mean that at least one other player will need to be placed on waivers or sent directly to the Wranglers.
