The order, which takes effect Nov. 1, does not affect the health or education sectors.
“In order to slow down the growth in the number of employees in the public service and respect the budgets allocated for the current year, the government will freeze recruitment in ministries and agencies (exclusions will apply) from Nov. 1, 2024,” Lebel’s office wrote in a statement.
“Note that this is not a hiring freeze, but rather a measure to avoid integrating new people into the public service,” the statement says.
