Nicole Kidman got emotional while reflecting on her mother’s recent death at the Season 2 premiere of “Lioness” Wednesday night.
“It’s been hard,” she candidly told the Hollywood Reporter on the Los Angeles red carpet. “It’s a hard road. I’m hanging in there.”
Kidman’s mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, died last month at age 84.
The Oscar-winning actress, 57, reportedly teared up while reflecting on the incredibly fruitful time in her career as she deals with her mom’s absence.
“I wish my mama was here,” she told THR. “That’d be the one thing I’d say. Everything is great with work but I wish my mama was here.”
Nicole learned of her mother’s passing shortly after she arrived at the 2024 Venice Film Festival, where she was expected to accept the award for best actress for her work on “Babygirl.”
Instead, the thriller film’s director, Halina Reijn, accepted the award on her behalf while simultaneously announcing Nicole’s mother’s death.
“I’m in shock and I have to go to my family, but this award is for her,” Nicole wrote in a statement read by Reijn.
“She shaped me, she guided me and she made me. I am beyond grateful that I get to say her name to all of you through Halina.”
“The collision of life and art is heartbreaking, and my heart is broken.”
On Sept. 13, Nicole and her sister Antonia thanked fans for their “outpouring of love and kindness” as they mourned their loss.
“Every message we have received from those who loved and admired our Mother has meant more to us than we will ever be able to express,” they penned on Instagram.
Keith Urban updated fans on how his wife was handling her mother’s death in late September, telling the Times that she’s “good.”
While grieving, Nicole’s thriller film, “The Perfect Couple,” shot to the No. 1 spot on Netflix after its Sept. 5 debut, per THR.
She made her first appearance following Janelle’s passing at Balenciaga’s Paris Fashion Week show on Sept. 30.
She’s now getting ready to shoot Amazon Studios’ “Scarpetta” opposite Jamie Lee Curtis and Ariana DeBose.
The project is believed to have been picked up for two eight-episode seasons, per Deadline.
