A middle school teacher grinned in her mugshot after allegedly having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old boy who was one of her students.
Angela Barnes, 45, wore a white sleeveless shirt and wavy long blonde locks in her booking photo released by the Keller Police Department on Monday.
Detectives discovered evidence that Barnes was involved in a sexual affair with her former student from June to July when Carroll Middle School was on summer break.
An investigation into Barnes started in late September after cops received a tip.
Barnes was arrested on Monday and has been charged with sexual assault of a child and improper relationship between an educator and student. She is being held at Keller Regional Detention Center in Texas.
There are not believed to be more victims.
Carroll Independent School District on Tuesday stated that it ‘immediately placed this staff member on administrative leave and reported to the proper authorities’.
‘The District was made aware the alleged offense took place off-campus over the summer within the jurisdiction of the Keller Police Department,’ the district stated.
It said it is working with police and Child Protective Services in the investigation and that ‘the safety and security of all students is always our top priority and any allegations of adult misconduct are addressed promptly and reported immediately to the proper authorities’.
Anyone with information on the incident is urged to contact the police department.
Barnes was arrested about a month-and-a-half after Missouri high school math teacher Hailey Clifton-Carmack, 26, pleaded guilty to sexual contact with a 16-year-old student and leaving scratch marks on him. Clifton-Carmack gave a blank expression in her mugshot released by the Garden Ridge Police Department.
The former Laquey High School teacher on October 11 was sentenced to four years in prison and a 120-day sex offender treatment and assessment program.
