Canada’s largest ski sale returns to Calgary this weekend

Max Bell Centre will be hosting the Calgary New & Used Ski Sale this weekend, the largest of its kind in Canada, with proceeds going to support three Calgary-area non-profits.

Officials say they are expecting the largest inventory in the sale’s 62-year run, with over $2 million in new and used items ready to sell.

Inventory includes skis, ski boots, bindings, snowboards, snowboard boots, Nordic gear (skis and boots), select AT gear (skis and boots), winter clothing, accessories and more, most of which is new. The items for sale come from shops and the public, with much of the new gear being donated as stores clear out previous years’ inventory.

The 2024 ski sale is planned, managed and run by over 450 volunteers, with proceeds going to the Calgary Ski Club, the Lake Louise Athletic Development Association and the Canadian Ski Patrol – Calgary Zone.

“Since 1963 the Calgary Ski Club, the Canadian Ski Patrol and the Lake Louise Athletic Development Association have provided a venue for ski shops, public consigners and thousands of early-season bargain hunters to come together,” organizers said in a news release.

“We are proud and privileged to have served and supported the Calgary-area ski and snowboard community for more than 60 years.”

Officials are expecting a turnout of more than 11,000 people.

The sale will be open to the public from 5 to 10 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. On Sunday there will be a special red-tag sale, offering 50 per cent off select items.

Admission is $10 per person, with youth 16 and under free. Parking is free with admission.
