Liberty fans go crazy at NYC parade celebrating WNBA champs

Fans partied in the streets and danced under confetti showers during the Liberty’s championship parade in New York City on Thursday.

It was a day New York fans will never forget after the Liberty beat the Lynx in an overtime thriller in a deciding Game 5 of the WNBA Finals to secure their first championship in franchise history on Sunday.

The parade of champions — which took place down the iconic Canyon of Heroes in a ticker-tape celebration — featured 3,000 pounds of confetti, according to Fox 5.

The Tsai’s, who own the Brooklyn Nets, bought the Liberty in 2019 and relocated the team from Westchester County to Brooklyn.

“Iconic!” one Liberty fan described this past season in an interview with Fox 5.

“This is amazing!” another fan said. “To elevate women’s sports to this level and for it to happen in New York!”

Fans were heard chanting, “We all we got! We all we need!” — a slogan featured on one of the Liberty’s floats.

After the Liberty’s 67-63 victory over the Lynx, Clara said the Liberty went from playing in front of 2,000 at the Westchester County Center, to playing in front of 18,000 fans at the Barclays Center.
