Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey misses practice for this unusual reason

Football players, they’re just like the rest of us.

Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey missed practice on Wednesday because he had jury duty and was then selected to serve as a juror.

Aubrey was picked to be part of a 12-person jury for a felony case in the 297th district court, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

The case revolves around a third-degree strangulation charge.

The Cowboys kicker appeared on the team’s injury report on Wednesday after reporters covering the Cowboys noticed he was absent from the portion of practice that is open to the media.

According to the Star-Telegram, Aubrey was spotted at the downtown Fort Worth courthouse, but it wasn’t clear how long the case could take.

The outlet also reported that Aubrey was insistent that he take part in his civic duty on Wednesday — despite the efforts of the organization to keep him from having to report for jury duty.

There is an expectation he will be back at practice on Thursday and Friday and that the judge in the case will be willing to work with the kicker’s football schedule.

The Cowboys travel to San Francisco on Sunday to face the 49ers at Levi’s Stadium.

Aubrey has been one of the best kickers in the NFL and has made at least two field goals in every appearance this season while going 17-for-19 overall.

His longest of the season was a 65-yard field goal.

Additionally, the 29-year-old has made 53 of his 57 attempted field goals during his time in the NFL and earned a first-team AP All-Pro nod last season.

Aubrey, a former MLS prospect, was signed by the Cowboys last summer out of the USFL, where he played two seasons for the Birmingham Stallions after only picking up kicking in 2019.
