A wife admitted she was “nervous” after receiving an unexpected letter from her husband — and it’s now going viral on social media.
“You could have given me a million guesses on how that letter would end, and I still wouldn’t have seen this coming,” one person said of the letter, which was shared to X on Tuesday.
Joyy, who goes by @JoyyUnSpeakable on the site, has clocked up 32.4 million views with the correspondence, penned by her hubby, Fred.
“To my wife,” the envelope containing the mysterious letter read,
“Ladies … choose yourself. I woke up to this nonsense after almost 11 years of marriage,” she captioned the post.
Fred started off the letter with a disclaimer, writing: “Dear wife, Let me start this off by saying I Love You dearly.”
“You mean the world to me. However I owe it to myself as well as you to be completely honest with you,” he wrote. “I have to come forward with my truth. I hate to do it this way but it’s now or never because what I’m about to say has to be said.”
After reading the nerve-wrecking first paragraph, many on social media assumed Fred was going to admit to cheating — but what he shared was wildly different.
“Tonight, October 22 2024. marks opening night for the New York Knicks 24-25 season,” he explained. “I will be watching the game tonight.”
Fred went on to say that from 7 p.m. through the end of the game, he “will not be a husband or father.”
“Y’all are on your own for a couple of hours,” he declared.
Fred said that during this time, he would not watch their shows with his wife, would not take the dog out and would not put their kid to bed.
“I will sit on my couch, drink in hand and I will watch the game. That’s it,” he said.
“This doesn’t mean I love you guys any less. It just means tonight is not about y’all. It’s about ruining the Boston Celtics ring ceremony,” he declared.
“The rest of the season is negotiable up until the point in time we reach the playoffs. Then I will have to abandon y’all again temporarily.”
He ended the letter by saying if his wife had any questions, she can call him and discuss — but only after the game.
After reading the formal letter from her husband, Joy texted him: “I gave you almost 12 years of my life just for you to leave me a letter like that???” to which he responded, “I had to be true to myself!!! Even if it hurt.”
Joy also shared in response to her original post that her husband did indeed watch the game — but he didn’t abandon being a dad or husband.
“He picked up food and ice cream on his way home from work. I’m on the couch talking to him while the game is on. I hope he don’t leave me,” she quipped, sharing a video of her and her son watching the game with Fred.
People in the comments were shocked about what the letter ended up saying.
“Not gonna lie I was NOT expecting that, it had me going the first half,” one wrote. “Kudos to you both for having a fun marriage and messing with each other. You need to get him back tho and get us a Part 2!”
“This is GOLD! I would have approved right away gave him beers and chips,” another responded.
“Girl you scared me,” a third stated. “Omg I thought he was divorcing you through a hand written letter.”
