Utah mother charged with murdering husband had boozy sex with him night before alleged killing: police

The Utah mother accused of murdering her sleeping husband claimed they had drunken sex the night before the alleged murder, and that he ended up attacking her in a rage over an affair.

Jennifer Gledhill, 41, told investigators she and her estranged husband Matthew Johnson, 51, met up to talk on September 20 and began “drinking whiskey” together, before the night turned into a boozed-up romp, according to a warrant from her October 2 arrest, revealed Friday ahead of her first court appearance Monday.

“Jennifer informed [the officer] due to the intoxication from the whiskey she had a hard time recalling the events that took place after her and Matthew had sex,” the warrant read, noting that Gledhill showed police bruising she had across her arms, hands, face, and legs, according to Fox13.

What Gledhill said she did remember was that her husband “became upset” over something, and that he ended up “on top of her with a closed fist striking her several times.”

Four days after that she filed a domestic violence report and then reported her husband missing — but prosecutors allege he’d been dead by her hand and buried in a shallow grave for days by then.

Prosecutors say she shot Johnson as he slept in their bed the day after their whiskey-charged sex, alleging they fought that night after he found out she was seeing another man.

They got that story from the paramour himself — who came forward to cops to say Gledhill confessed everything to him.

“The defendant told the informant that she shot Mr. Johnson [the next day] as he slept in their bed,” Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill said in a statement.

“She told the informant that she put Mr. Johnson’s body into a rooftop storage container, slid him down the stairs of their home, and loaded his body into the back of their minivan,” then drove north and buried him in a shallow grave.

The lover even said she told him the bruises across her body weren’t inflicted by Johnson — but that she got them moving his body and cleaning up her house after the killing, according to Fox13.

As investigators continue to search for Johnson’s body, Gledhill was charged with nine felony counts on October 15 — including first degree murder.

On Monday she was ordered to have no contact with her three young kids.
