Ex-President Donald Trump was surrounded by voters who put their hands on him while praying for ‘holy and warrior angels’ to help him ‘make America Godly again’.
Trump closed his eyes as Latino supporters gathered around him during a roundtable discussion and did a group prayer for him to win the November election.
‘We ask, Lord, that you would strengthen him, that you would send your holy and warrior angels around him like we’ve seen evidenced already,’ said one of the speakers, standing over Trump.
‘So we ask for that covering over him, that he would continue to hear your voice, that you would continue to order his steps, and that he would help us to make America Godly again.’
The man also said, ‘we think this is a man that does in fact respect all people of faith’.
Another man said passionately: ‘We’re going to pray for the will of God, for him to be the next 47th president… in Jesus’ name, Amen.’
Cheers sounded as the prayer ended and a woman told Trump: ‘I hope you can feel the Latino love.’
The crowd of a few hundred at Trump National Doral Miami resort on Monday then started chanting, ‘Si se puede, Si se puede, Si se puede,’ during the Village People’s ‘YMCA’ song, which the Republican candidate often dances to.
Attendees also showered Trump with gifts. One of them was an art piece of the Virgin Mary by Mexican actor Eduardo Verástegui.
Goya Foods CEO Bob Unanue called Trump’s opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, the ‘root cause’ of the US’s issues at the southern border with Mexico. Unanue also mispronounced Harris’ first name as ‘Que Mala’, which means ‘so bad’ in Spanish.
Trump enjoyed the faith-fueled support despite pushing his plan to crack down on migrants coming through the US’s southern border with Mexico, which people from other Latin American countries have also gone to.
The former president has long had the support of the Republican-leaning Cuban-American voters in Miami-Dade County.
In June 2023 after pleading not guilty to felony charges in the classified documents case, Trump went straight to the historic Cuban restaurant, Versailles Cafe, where his fans cheered him on and sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to him.
The somewhat cult-like scene on Monday unfolded less than a week after Trump spoke at a Univision town hall during which he reiterated his plans to crack down on immigration and did not take back his claims that Haitian immigrants are eating dogs and cats in Springfield, Ohio.
At the roundtable, Trump falsely claimed that Harris is ‘sleeping right now’ and ‘not doing anything today’ despite the election being two weeks away. In reality, Harris had plans to tape interviews with Telemundo and NBC.
Trump led Harris 50.7% to 44.9% in Florida on Monday, according to FiveThirtyEight’s average of polls.
