Liberal MNA Marwah Rizqy asks for police protection in wake of threats

She says she fears for her safety and that of her family after speaking up about a toxic climate at the Bedford school.

Saying she fears for her safety and that of her family, St-Laurent MNA Marwah Rizqy has asked for police protection.

She vowed on Tuesday to continue to speak out against the situation, despite degrading and threatening comments made toward her.

“It is up to me to fight for my own freedom of expression and freedom as a legislator, along with all my parliamentary colleagues,” Rizqy said. “I’m not discouraged; I will roll up my sleeves and continue this work.”

She thanked her fellow MNAs from all parties for their support.

Among those who spoke out in defence of Rizqy were Education Minster Bernard Drainville, Québec solidaire co-spokesperson Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois and PQ leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon.

This isn’t the first time that Rizqy has faced threats. She revealed in 2022 that she received death threats during the provincial election campaign.
