Fans of Why Did I Get Married? have noticed something suspicious about the film 17 years after its release.
It appears the 2007 musical comedy didn’t bother using real or fake snow for filming, but they seem to have simply covered houses in, er, white blankets.
One fan on TikTok, its_mld118, noticed the odd set design and posted a video online, which has since gone viral.
‘Wow how am I just noticing Tyler Perry used some blankets for the snow,’ they wrote, while Indiaa.m joked: ‘Janet Jackson and Jill Scott was most the budget.’
‘I mean they do call it a blanket of snow lol,’ added LightSkinnBRI, while Drea said: ‘Our TVs getting too clear lmfaoo it didn’t look like that back in the day.’
Others thought it was a pretty clever move, as Kiki Spice said: ‘That’s actually sort of genius. We didn’t notice and he saved money lol and now that we know those are blankets does it change the fact Mike made Sheila drive up the mountain.’
Meanwhile, tiasmith201 added: ‘I never knew that!! It blended in well with that wood.’
Written, produced and directed by Perry, Why Did I Get Married? is based off his play of the same name and also starred Janet Jackson, Jill Scott, Melik Yoba, Sharon Leal, Tasha Smith, Michael Jai White, Richard T. Jones, Denise Boutte, and Keesha Sharp.
The plot follows four couples as they argue and grapple with staying together in the modern age.
After convening for their annual trip away in the Colorado Mountains, drama unfolds as they hunker down in a cosy house (which is covered in a, ahem, blanket of snow).
This lightbulb moment from fans comes after another bombshell, as many have been left suspecting a Why Did I Get Married? 3 could be in the works after some cast members shared teasing videos.
Referencing a moment in the film where his character made his partner Sheila drive in the show, Richard T Jones shared a TikTok on a flight and wrote: ‘POV: I had to make Sheila drive again. See you on the mountain though.’
After online banter with fans and Richard, Jill then responded via Instagram, pretending to be her character Sheila, and said: ‘I cannot believe that Mike would do this to me again. Well, I’ma tell you something – I’m gonna get up this mountain.’
The singer captioned the clip: ‘Kick a woman while she’s down huh? Mike is a whole [a**].’
While Tasha Smith and Michael Jai White also shared teases, the big hint came as creator Tyler took to social media and shared a cryptic post, which was simply a pair of side-eyes and a quizzical emoji in a picture with no caption.
Fans were buzzing, as they commented on the post with various predictions and requests for the filmmaker, while others just expressed their excitement.
‘There is a God, and he wants you to make this happen,’ wrote seanfreeman_ under the post, while iammissfaye said: ‘Mr. Perry, DO NOT PLAY WITH MY EMOTIONS LIKE THIS!!!!!’
kikihaynes added: ‘You know we’ve been asking you for this for years! I’m really happy to see that it’s finally coming into fruition.’
