A Hollywood legend has been pictured filming on a boat in a canal in Birmingham for Netflix much-anticipated Peaky Blinders film.
Stephen Graham, in character as Hayden Stagg, looked shifty as he steered a barge labelled Thomas Coathure & Sons Ltd in Gas Street Basin during a nighttime shoot.
The Boiling Point star, 51, wore a brown jacket as other actors dressed in long coats and black flat claps were seen walking along the water’s edge in front of a building named Tap & Spile.
It was confirmed last month that Stephen was reprising the role he played in the sixth and final season. In the show, Hayden was a union convenor who stole opium in storage at the Salthouse docks in Liverpool.
Speaking about the film, the Line of Duty star previously told Deadline that he was ‘looking forward to seeing the lads again’.
However, he didn’t elaborate any further about what storyline was ahead for his character.
Cillian Murphy, who plays Thomas Shelby, was also seen filming in Birmingham, wearing his trademark flat cap, suit and leather gloves – covered in crusty mud.
The Oppenheimer star seemed to have a bruise on his cheek too, suggesting that Thomas had found himself in a scuffle, as he rode a black horse.
Last month, the 48-year-old sparked speculation that Thomas could be rocking a completely new look in the movie.
The Irish actor was enjoying a shopping trip in Manchester but fans spotted underneath his woolly hat was lighter hair suggesting Thomas could be in his blond era.
The original series which built up a massive fanbase explored the rise of the Shelby family from after the First World War onwards. It ran for six seasons, before wrapping up in 2022.
The forthcoming movie will see the action shift to follow the Shelby family into the Second World War.
Production started on the film last month, which will be set in the ‘lawless streets of Birmingham in the 1900s’ Netflix has said.
The cast also includes new addition Barry Keoghan, as well as Sophie Rundle in her previous role of Ada Shelby, Ned Dennehy as Charlie Strong and Curly actor Ian Peck.
Titans actor Jay Lycurgo will also join the cast, with Dune actress Rebecca Ferguson and Pulp Fiction actor Tim Roth previously announced for the film.
The film is being produced by Stephen Knight alongside Murphy, Patrick Holland and Guy Heeley, and will be made in association with BBC Film.
Further casting and plot details are to be announced in due course.
