Former President Donald Trump has a narrow lead over VP Kamala Harris with Arab voters nationally, according to a recent poll.
Trump is backed by 45% of Arab voters with 43% backing Harris and Jill Stein receiving 8%, a poll put out by Arab News and YouGov states.
Four percent of Arab voters are pulling the lever for Jill Stein, 6% are undecided and 2% said they’d prefer not to share whom they support in this election.
When asked which candidate would be most likely to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Trump’s advantage widened to six points with 39% of respondents saying he would be more likely to bring peace to the region and only 33% believing Harris would be able to.
A plurality of respondents believe that Harris is “more sensitive to the national needs and problems of Arab Americans,” with 39% saying she is and 31% saying Trump is more sensitive.
Harris has been struggling with support from Arab Americans due to the Biden administration’s backing of Israel in its war against Hamas.
In August, Muslim Women for Harris-Walz withdrew its endorsement and disbanded after a Palestinian representative was denied a speaking slot at the Democratic National Convention.
“We cannot in good conscience, continue Muslim Women for Harris-Walz, in light of this new information from the Uncommitted movement, that VP Harris’ team declined their request to have a Palestinian American speaker take the stage at the DNC,” Muslim Women for Harris-Walz said in a statement at the time.
In 2020, President Biden is believed to have won 60% of the Arab vote.
A poll released by the Arab American Institute in October had Trump leading Harris with Arab voters 46% to 42%.
Arabs are a vital voting group in Michigan, a key swing state that many see as critical to Harris’ path to the White House.
Trump recently won the endorsement of Amer Ghalib, the first Muslim mayor of Hamtramck, Michigan.
“I believe he is the right choice for this critical time,” he said.
The former president has been slamming Harris for campaigning with ex-Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, who was the architect of the Iraq War.
“Lyin’ Kamala has stooped so low as to pick a woman to campaign with her who lost her Congressional Race by the largest margin, 40%, in history. The record holder is Crazed Warhawk Liz Cheney, whose father, Dick, convinced Bush to go into the Middle East and KILL. Now Kamala wants Arabs to vote for her? I don’t think so!” Trump posted on Truth Social.
