‘The Office’ star Jenna Fischer reveals which celebrity had a ‘salty’ reaction to her cancer news

Jenna Fischer has revealed that her celeb pal and fellow actress Christina Applegate that had a “salty” reaction to her cancer diagnosis.

“The Office” alum — who played Pam Beesly on the hit NBC sitcom — revealed earlier this month was diagnosed with breast cancer last year.

Appearing on the “Today” show, Fischer said she received her diagnosis in October 2023. Her husband, Lee Kirk, was the first person she told about the news.

One of the first friends she decided to share news of her health woes with was Applegate, with whom she co-starred in the 2011 film, “Hall Pass.”

“I called her, and she answered the phone, and she said, ‘Which one is it?’ And I said, ‘It’s breast cancer.’ And she said, ‘I effing knew it.’”

“She’s salty. Salty language that one. I love her for it,” Fischer said of Applegate, who is living with multiple sclerosis.

“After completing surgery, chemotherapy and radiation I am now cancer free,” she wrote.

However, the road to recovery was not always smooth-sailing.

Fischer told fans that she had a lumpectomy in January to remove the tumor, which luckily hadn’t spread because the doctors caught it early. Due to the “aggressive nature” of her cancer, the star required chemotherapy and radiation.

She underwent 12 rounds of weekly chemo starting in February and began her three weeks of radiation in June. Fischer was also treated with infusions of two other medications.

“I’m happy to say I’m feeling great,” she shared in an Instagram post.

“I lost my hair during chemotherapy but thanks to some great wigs and hats with hair (which my family affectionately called Wigats) I have been able to wait until now to reveal all that has been going on for me,” Fisher continued, adding, “I’m making this announcement for a few reasons.”

“One, I’m ready to ditch the wigs. Two, to implore you to get your annual mammograms. You can also ask your doctor to calculate your Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Score and get any additional screenings required. I’m serious, call your doctors right now,” she said.

Fischer also gave a special shout-out to her former “The Office” co-star Angela Kinsey and her husband, Joshua Snyder.

Fischer has been married to her husband, director Lee Kirk, since 2010. The couple has two kids: son Weston Lee and daughter Harper Marie.
