Viewers have been left outraged by Alec Baldwin’s return to screen, months after his involuntary manslaughter trial was officially dismissed.
In July, the charges against him in relation to the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust were dropped.
The judge dismissed the case with prejudice based on the misconduct of police and prosecutors over the withholding of ammunition evidence from the defence.
Following the ruling, Baldwin broke down in tears and thanked those who had supported him, saying: ‘To all of you, you will never know how much I appreciate your kindness toward my family.’
He’s now returned Saturday Night Live, which fans weren’t happy about.
The 66-year-old actor played Fox News host Bret Baier for a sketch interviewing Maya Rudolph as Kamala Harris.
Viewers were less than impressed, with @prenezisbell writing: ‘Alec Baldwin shot and killed another human being. Forgetting the issue of his culpability, am I supposed to forget this and chuckle with delight at his narcissistic appearance on yuk-fest SNL? This is as tone-deaf as anything I’ve ever seen. Leave him in the wilderness.’
@slowlanedad wrote: ‘I hope SNL understands that this is extremely bad taste and absolutely NOBODY wants to see Alec Baldwin on tv EVER again.’
‘SNL is sick for having Alec Baldwin on. What is wrong with them!?’ @Purple_Unicornz said.
‘Wow I can’t believe SNL let Alec Baldwin back on the air. I hope he donates any proceeds from this appearance to the family of the woman he shot dead,’ @bookshelfbattle said.
‘SNL, Alec Baldwin? Seriously? Talk about “in bad taste”!’ @BonaRiverRat said.
@RyanPat7726 added: ‘I can’t believe how some folks love seeing Alec Baldwin back on SNL after what he did.’
@MiraiZ also wrote: ‘@AlecBaldwin killed a person. Even if it was an accident, that person is dead. Her family and friends will never see her alive EVER again. Alec Baldwin should show some respect by not showing his face on TV let alone #SNL ever again.’
This comes after Baldwin was faced with immense backlash after announcing a new reality TV series with wife Hilaria Baldwin and their seven children.
In June, before the case had been dismissed, the couple confirmed the news on Instagram, with Hilaria – who was previously accused of faking being Spanish – joking that it wasn’t anything to do with having another child.
‘We’re inviting you into our home to experience the ups and downs, the good, the bad, the wild and the crazy,’ Alec – who is also dad to daughter Ireland Baldwin – continued, over footage of their brood running around.
‘Home is the place we love to be most.’
