SAQ workers stage surprise walkout Friday afternoon

It comes a day after 5,000 workers walked off the job.

Société des alcools du Québec (SAQ) workers launched a surprise walkout at 2:30 p.m. Friday.

Negotiators from the SAQ and the CSN-affiliated union were at the table today, a CSN representative told The Gazette. But the union was “unsatisfied with the way negotiations were unfolding,” and ordered the strike while still at the table.

“Surprise!” the CSN wrote on Facebook. “A reminder to the employer: We still have more strike days in our pocket.”

The CSN representative said negotiations continue and union members will return to work Saturday.

The walkout comes the same day as a judge signed off on an injunction request from the SAQ that, among other things, will prohibit striking workers from blocking SAQ entrances and exits.
