The man was trying to recapture his dog, who had leapt out of his vehicle.
A man died Thursday evening after he was struck by a car while trying to recapture his dog after it broke loose from his vehicle on Highway 10 near Brossard.
The Sûreté du Québec were called to the scene at about 8:15 p.m.
According to their initial investigation, the driver, who was travelling east on the highway, accidentally ran off the road and wound up in the median between lanes. At this point, his dog managed to leap out of the vehicle. The driver then exited his vehicle and made his way to the westbound lanes to grab the pet, but was struck by another vehicle unable to avoid him. He and the pet were declared dead at the scene.
The police perimeter set up to examine the scene resulted in a mammoth traffic jam and was not lifted until 11:30 p.m.
