Since opening on Sept. 14, the parade has attracted thousands of people to 18 different show homes, designed and constructed by 13 different certified professional home builders with the SRHBA.

David Selby, Touchstone’s engineer and construction manager, says that close to 600 people came through their lake-facing show home on the first weekend of the parade, with hundreds more visitors in the weeks that followed.

“There’s been so much positive feedback. We’ve been told many times: ‘This one is my favourite.’ We take note of people’s comments in a journal we keep at the show home,” says Selby.

“This is our Sunstone model. It’s a new plan for us,” says Selby. “The first criteria was to take advantage of the view.” The show home faces Brighton’s signature Core Park lake, a scenic amenity in the neighbourhood.

“To maximize those lake views, we placed the upstairs bonus room and the primary suite at the front of the house,” says Selby. The grand foyer also features large windows which capture views of the lake.

One of the notable design elements in the Touchstone parade home are graceful arches, leading to the main floor living area as well as the second floor primary suite.

“This home has more of a classic feel and the arches contribute to that. We’re getting a lot of compliments on the arches. We also like the look of flat ceilings and flat profile casings, which are a bit more minimal and classic. The ideas flowed from there, including the feature wall in the living room with finely crafted built-in cabinets on either side of the fireplace,” says Selby.

Touchstone’s designer Ashley Friesen selected a pleasing two-tone colour scheme for the kitchen’s classic Shaker-style cabinets. Upper cabinets feature a warm woodgrain laminate finish, with painted lower cabinets. The quartz-topped woodgrain island doubles as a prep space and serving counter.

A walk-through pantry adjacent to the kitchen is ideal for storing groceries and cookware, and leads to a large mudroom, with custom cabinets and bench seating. A home office and powder room are located just down the hall.

A grand staircase leads upstairs to a sunshine-filled bonus room with large windows framing enviable lake views.

Next to the bonus room is the large primary suite, also capturing views of the water. One of the designer touches in this room is a painted slat feature wall.

The sleek finishes in the ensuite sparkle in the sunlight, including quartz counters and terrazzo-style tile flooring. The tile artistry in the shower is particularly eye-catching, with one wall finished in glazed zellige tiles. A standalone sculpted tub is positioned between the shower and the enclosed toilet. Continue through the ensuite and discover a huge walk-in closet with custom shelving.

A laundry room, with woodgrain cabinetry, is located between the primary suite and the home’s two secondary bedrooms. The two children’s bedrooms have large windows and closets with built-in organizers.

Participating in the Parade of Homes is an opportunity to showcase Touchstone’s 18 years of experience and craftsmanship, says Selby. “Having a show home allows people to see our workmanship, our quality of construction and what we can do for them. Our work can speak for itself.”

For home buyers interested in a custom build, a show home is an important conversation starter. “It’s a great avenue for people to start asking questions. There might be something they see in a show home that they hadn’t previously considered for their own home. It really helps people visualize their own dream home,” says Selby.
